Analyze Computer's Problems

Computer contains various parts which, maybe, we can't count how many parts it has. However, for such a home user, it doesn't matter that we have to know all of that part if we want to repair it ourselves. Instead, we have to understand the function of these basic parts and their interoperation so that we can fix it properly.

First, we have to figure out what hardware is and what software is. This seems to be easy but it has great effect on fixing our computers. Hardware is things that we can touch in our computers such as a monitor, keyboard, speaker or everything which is in our case such as main board, ram memory, hard drive or floppy disk, while software is maybe call "program" that we put in a computer by any means such as by CD-Rom, internet, or floppy disk which make computers work. These two main components compose a worked computer which we can use it instantly.

Secondly, we have to know that if our computers can not work properly, normally a problem comes from one source. Still, we have to discompose all of these possible sources. For example, if we can't login to platform such as Windows, there are many possible causes such as Windows software defection, overheating CPU (Central Processing Unit) or Ram memory or even hard drive defection. After we discompose these possible causes, we can fix it by analyze each one until we find the real root of problem.

Interoperation of each component in a computer is quite crucial to analyze a problem. We should have to know the relationship of each component especially in hardware’s relation. For example, main board is the main component of a computer which many items have to connect with the main board. The speed of a computer relates with CPU, ram and main board. A monitor relates with graphic card which is also connected with the main board. A speaker is the product of sound card which is also on the main board. If we understand all of these relations, and flow of working diagram, we can more easily locate the main cause of problem. Moreover, this knowledge can be applied in optimization. If we know about the relationship of each component, we can modify our computers to work in high efficiency. Maybe I'd talk about this later in my next blog.

Computer's problems may be too broad and complicated to locate the real cause. However, if we have a bacic analytical skill, knowledge of computer hardware and software and some experiences from any sources such as books, internet or other people, we can do it ourself!

Based on my experiences, What am I thinking about expressing anger

Base on my experiences in observing about expressing anger, what do I think about those generalizations in anger articles?

After finished reading through all these three articles, “The Anger Factor”, “The Great Catharsis Debate” and “Manners, Emotions and American Way”, realized various general ideas, and then discovered one general theme run into these three articles, I , from my own background and knowledge about anger, principally agree with almost all that these articles say.

The author of “The Anger Factor” claim that expressing anger may do physical harm should be scientifically true. I agree with all of this statement simply because I had some experiences about this. When I was young, one of my cousins had problems with his heart and high blood pressure because of cholesterol. I wondered why the doctor adviced him to avoid angry and stressful situation. I figured out that he got a heart attack and spent series of serious nights in a hospital because he had a big argument with another cousin on such an insignificant issue. Afterwards, he seemed to be angry and his face turned red, then he lied down on the floor and his hand clutched with his heart. Then everyone was shocked and seriously realized that anger and stress were not only dangerous for him, but also for others who were getting old. Another piece of evidence came from my own experience. When I feel angry, my heart rate is running high and I feel uncomfortable to do everything or can not do it as same as I can when I'm in a good mood. I always have a headache when I feel angry or stressful which some people tell me that it can lead to migraine which is a severe recurring headache.

I also agree with “The Great Catharsis Debate” which Carlson and Hatfield suggest that catharsis, instead of alleviation of stress, may worsen the situation. From my experience with people that I have related with for all of my life, I have never seen that their anger disappeared after they expressed it. Seemingly, when somebody shout loudly or hit a pillow aggressively while they are angry, it helps them somewhat feel better in my opinion. Nevertheless, anger is still in their minds and cannot be relieved by repeating shouting or punching something. Furthermore, expressing anger always worsens situations especially when expressing with human. I have had an experience while I worked in a company. I always had meeting with a manager to discuss about an engineering project. Regarding his position, I normally had to obey his opinion and if there was a crash in decision, I had to let his opinion go. However, one day, I thought that my opinion was really perfect and I could support it fully, but he still opposed my opinion which I thought that there was no reason to argue and thought that he just wanted to have his way. Thus, I lost my temper that I can’t control it anymore. The result was, therefore, I had to move to another section in my company. I realized that if I could control my anger as much as possible and tried not to express it, I wouldn’t get in trouble. Again, I’d say that expressing anger is beneficial only the situation that don't involve with other people, otherwise it’s unfavorable.

However, I still have questions regarding the general statement in “Manners, Emotions, and the American Way” which states that American have a problem in controlling anger because of their individualism and competitiveness. From my experience in the United States, I truly admire American ways of expressing feeling. I think that American can express everything as their mind even if it differs from others. For instance, in my country, Thailand, people usually can not speak or express whatever they want because Thai culture emphasizes on respect and self-restraint. Therefore, I’d say that American have less anger management problem than some other people because after American express their anger, for example, in a serious meeting, it’s over while Thai have to keep their anger that can erupt unconsciously. Thus, I think that being frank is one of the best ways of dealing with anger.

From the whole articles that I have read and experiences from my educational and career life, expressing anger may benefit or worsen the circumstances which relies on many factors such as cultures, people or occurrence. Therefore, I’d recommend that people should be taught to manage their anger properly.

Initial experiences as a student in the U.S.

Hi there!

First, I'd like to say "warm welcome" to everybody coming by here. This is my blog while I study in the George Washington University where I spend my Master degree in engineering management for this next two years.

Let's say, the first topic that I'd like to write about is initial experiences as a student in the United States. Well, I entered the U.S. on October,8 2005 or three months ago as the second time here. Before I entered GW, I attended a language school "International Language Institute" at Dupont circle in D.C. area. It took about 45 days and I had a lot of wonderful experiences while being there. I had many friends from almost over the world in my class, for example, Kenya, Columbia, Senegal, Aserbijan, Austria, Koria, Germany, Japan and Perto rico. Therefore, we can share plenty of experiences from one another to discuss on each topic. Virtually, I ever thought that I had to adapt a lot while I am in the class with other international students because I, at first, believed that there are a lot of difference between us. Nevertheless, I didn't have to adapt at all and I also understood that every person is similar even though we are different in various nation. We laught in the same comedy and we cry in the same tragedy.

Before I write about life in GW, I will talk about my life here. I agree that it is quite hard time when somebody has to move to a new place because he/she have to settle eveything in his/her life again untill everything runs smoothly. What do you think if somebody has to move to new country without any friends or relatives? There will be a lot of problems such as language, food, housing, transportation or loneliness. For my experience, when I entered the U.S., I already contacted homestay from my language school that I would stay with them for my first month so I could look for somewhere else while I was in the United States. I also cut my language problem by studying a lot with my television trying to speak like somebody said on TV and try to speak a lot with my homestay family. After two months, it's pretty better than when I first came here. For housing, I was trying by looking on internet but the prices are quite high. I have tried for several days but no one fitted my needs. However, I fortunately met other people from my country, Thailand, and she offered me in really low price. After I could have a permanent room, everything went easily. I can order some furniture from internet. I could get driver license and buy a car. All of this, I have worked for three months.

Attending GW makes me excited, I'd like to know my classes, my friends and my activities in the university. First, I had an international orientation with International Student Office(ISO). They told me about everything that international students should know in advance. I also met a lot of international students here including other five students from Thailand. Then I attended engineering orientation that its staffs gave various souvenirs such as T-shirt, pens or even a screw!. After happy time, I had to take an EFL placement test which would indicate my level of English and I might have to take an English course here. The result had nothing to surprise me, I had to take EFL 110 class because I did a bad job in my exam.

Today is my first day writing in my blog. I hope everyone who can read untill this sentence be my good reader and you can give any advice or feedback down here.

Have a nice life,
PK
